NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
This is day 1 of a 2 day program offered by Hale Mountain. You can register for the next class at Hale Mountain here: 8/26/2023.
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.
Course topics include:
- gun safety rules
- proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols
- ammunition knowledge and selection
- pistol selection and storage
- shooting fundamentals
- pistol inspection and maintenance
- marksmanship
- shooting range safety.
Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with a NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.
This course costs $105 for Hale Mountain FGC members or $130 for non-members. The additional fee ($25) may be applied to membership at Hale Mountain FGC.

Pistol Shooting 102
This is day 2 of a 2 day program offered by Hale Mountain. The next class will be on 9/23/2023. Please email president@hmfgc.org to register.
This class is intended for individuals who have already completed NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting or equivalent (Sig Academy Handgun 101, etc.). Students failing to demonstrate the requisite skills (loading, unloading, firing) will be removed from class.
Course topics include:
- Safety
- Pistols suitable for competition/CCW
- Belts, holsters, magazine carriers
- CCW considerations
- Review the fundamentals of shooting
- Shooting stances
- Presentation from the holster
- Magazine placement and changes
- Trigger resets
- Controlled pairs and Hammers
- Clearing malfunctions
- Strong hand shooting (if time permits)
This course costs $155 for Hale Mountain FGC members or $180 for non-members. The additional fee ($25) may be applied to membership at Hale Mountain FGC.
